My Rating: ★★★★
Queen’s High (紅粉至尊) is a Hong Kong action crime movie that was released on 12 January 1991.
About
Kwanny goes ahead with her wedding plans despite the pressure from her brothers gang rivals. The gang attacks the wedding and then Kwanny tries to get her revenge.
Cast
Cynthia Khan (楊麗菁) as Kwanny Yeung
She is a Taiwanese actress who moved to Hong Kong. She graduated from the Dance Department of Kuo-Kuang Arts School in Taipei. Queen’s High was about the 5th movie she made. We haven’t seen her in many shows.
Simon Yam (任達華) as Chung
He is Hong Kong actor and photographer. He has appeared in many films and TV dramas. He continues to be busy with several forthcoming productions even at the age of 70.
Review
The very first scene in the moving was Cynthia Khan wearing her wedding dress, flying through the air, firing a machine gun. This is an iconic scene for which she will undoubtedly be remembered for.
I would say this is standard Hong Kong fare for its time period, no one seemed to get bored with this format back in the day.
The story line was not great but the actors held up well making the scenario work well.
The action was the best with many unique moves that would keep the audiences attention. Its not a surprise ending as I’ve seen that format in many Hong Kong movies.
We watched a version that looked a bit grainy, it looked like a movie that had deteriorated over time, some of the subtitles were hard to read (ie white subtitles on white backdrop).
Summary
It did keep us entertained and not sorry to have watched it, it is an important part of Hong Kong movies at that time. 1/5 for story, 5/5 for action. I just marked it as 4/5.
