My Rating: ★
City on Fire [龙虎风云] is a Hong Kong action thriller movie that was released on 13 February 1987.
About
Ko Chow, played by Chow Yun Fat, is an undercover cop whose job is to infiltrate a gang of ruthless jewel thieves while juggling a relationship with a temperamental finance.
Cast
Chow Yun Fat as Ko Chow
Obviously this is a younger Chow Yun Fat well before Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Review
Ok. Where do I start with this one.
The first annoying thing about this movie was the Cantonese dubbing. I am not sure why they dubbed over the actors original Cantonese voices. I can only think we saw a restored version but the quality wasn’t that great.
The story wasn’t that interesting. Is Ko Chow a cop or has he become one of the criminals?
I don’t think this portrayed women in a good light. Ko Chow’s fiance was like “if you don’t marry me I will run off with the old rich geezer”.
There was more smoking than acting. So much smoking that I wouldn’t be surprised if the actors ended up with cancer by the end of the movie. It was pretty gross, so much wasted time in the movie.
I’m not sure why we had to see Chow Yun Fat’s naked butt, it didn’t really add anything to the movie.
Summary
The ratings were somewhat low on other movie websites. I would give it a generous 0.5/5 but will be overly generous at 1.0.
Not sure whether I would recommend the movie, but of course my taste is different to others.
